1. Introduction
Trezor.io/Start is the official gateway for initializing your Trezor device securely. This setup guide walks you through connecting, securing, and using your hardware wallet step-by-step.
2. What You'll Need
- A Trezor hardware wallet (Model One, Model T)
- USB cable (included)
- Computer or compatible smartphone
- Internet connection
- Pen and paper for recovery phrase
3. Device Inspection
Before using your Trezor, check that the packaging is sealed and untampered. If anything looks off, do not continue — contact Trezor Support.
4. Connect to Your Computer
- Plug in your Trezor using the USB cable.
- Go to https://trezor.io/start in your browser.
- Download and install Trezor Suite when prompted (recommended).
5. Firmware Installation
New devices require firmware to be installed. The Trezor Suite will detect this and guide you through the secure installation. Confirm actions directly on the device screen.
6. Create or Recover a Wallet
- Create New Wallet: For first-time users.
- Recover Wallet: If you already have a 12/24-word recovery phrase.
7. Secure Your Recovery Seed
Your device will generate a recovery seed (12 to 24 words). Write these down in the exact order. Never take a photo or store it online.
This is the only way to recover your funds if your device is lost or damaged.
8. Set a PIN
Choose a secure PIN during setup. It protects your device from unauthorized access. You will enter it using the device (not your computer) to prevent keylogging.
9. Enable Passphrase (Optional)
Advanced users can enable a passphrase — an optional 25th word that creates a hidden wallet. Use this feature only if you understand the risks.
10. Access Your Wallet
Once set up, you can manage assets, send/receive crypto, and use apps like Metamask through Trezor Suite. Trezor Suite provides access to BTC, ETH, ERC-20 tokens, and more.
11. Stay Safe
- Never share your recovery seed with anyone.
- Always verify addresses on your device screen before sending crypto.
- Bookmark https://trezor.io and avoid phishing domains.
- Use the Trezor Suite desktop app for better security over the web version.
12. Help & Support
If you encounter issues during setup, visit the Trezor Support Center for troubleshooting, live chat, or ticketing.
